During the attack, the bandits are also claimed to have kidnapped two majors, according to Daily Trust.
The bandits who allegedly attacked the barracks at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, are thought to still be inside the academy, according to reports.
Security has been increased up within and around the barracks, as per a source within the barracks, to prevent the bandits from fleeing with the officers.
“It was a terrible experience, the bandits took advantage of the time when most people had gone to bed to attack the barracks. Right now, the whole barracks is under lock and key and security has been beefed up so that the bandits would not leave the barracks… it is believed that they are still within,” the source said.
As I write this, one of the policemen who was hurt is being treated in a facility within the barracks for his injuries.
The attack was also confirmed by Major Bashir Muhd Jajira, the Academy’s Public Relations Officer.
“The security architecture of the Nigerian Defence Academy was compromised early this morning by unknown gunmen who gained access into the residential area within the Academy in Afaka. During the unfortunate incident, we lost two personnel and one was abducted.
The Academy in collaboration with the 1Division Nigerian Army and Air Training Command as well as other security agencies in Kaduna state has since commenced pursuit of the unknown gunmen within the general area with a view to tracking them and rescue the abducted personnel.”
The NDA community and Cadets are safe in the Academy. We assure the general public that this unknown gunmen would soon be apprehended and the abducted personnel rescued.”
