Cristiano Ronaldo notched the 700th goal of his club career to put Manchester United 2-1 up in Sunday night’s Premier League clash with Everton at Goodison Park.
After earlier stepping off the bench to replace the injured Anthony Martial, the Portuguese star, who was dropped to the bench after starting Thursday night’s 3-2 Europa League win over Omonia Nicosia, stroked home a landmark goal after latching onto Casemiro’s exquisite pass.
The Brazilian wrestled the ball back from Toffees goalscorer Alex Iwobi inside his own half and produced an outstanding pass that split the Everton defence wide open and sent Ronaldo free. The latter latched onto it, motored forward inside the left channel of the front-three and buried a low shot past Jordan Pickford.
The Reds had fallen behind with just five minutes on the clock, conceding a stunner from Iwobi, before drawing level through Antony’s third goal in as many league games. Ronaldo was brought on with 29 minutes on the clock to replace Martial, who was struggling with a hip problem.
Unsurprisingly, United’s supporters went wild in response to Ronaldo reaching a famous landmark in his career. Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what they had to say:
