Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has addressed the media at a press conference in Spain ahead of the final Europa League group game with Real Sociedad.
The boss has travelled to San Sebastian without the likes of Antony, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial, so his attacking options are reduced for a tie that requires a minimum two-goal victory for the Reds in order to leapfrog La Real and win the group.
Antony missed the win over West Ham United at the weekend due to injury and is absent again for this clash.
“Jadon Sancho, he was ill,” confirmed Ten Hag. “And Anthony Martial is still in recovery, in the rehab, and has to finish that.
“He did train this morning so we are going in the right direction.”
United are also without Raphael Varane, who will not play again before the break for the World Cup, because of an injury sustained in the 1-1 draw at Chelsea.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is back in the squad, while there is also a spot for Under-21s forward Shola Shoretire.
Wan-Bissaka’s availability is a boost, with Diogo Dalot in fine form but having played every game in October, although Ten Hag pointed out Victor Lindelof and Tyrell Malacia are other options for the right-back slot.
“Luckily, also Aaron Wan-Bissaka is back in the squad so we have replacements. He [Dalot] is physically a really good profile and I am sure he will keep going and keep developing. That is what we demand.”
The manager also stressed Cristiano Ronaldo is obviously a strong option to lead the attack again.
“Ronaldo is an important part of this group and a leader type,” added the Dutchman.
