Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay & Chile expected to jointly host 2030 World Cup

According to reports, the leaders of football assosiations of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile and FIFA President Infantino will hold a meeting in Argentina. The leaders of the four national football associations and CONMEBOLPresident Dominguez will strive for South America to obtain the joint bid for the 2030 World Cup in this event.

Dominguez said: “The 2030 World Cup is not an ordinary World Cup. 100 years ago, the first World Cup was held in South America in 1930. Considering the 100th anniversary of the World Cup, the World Cup should be held in South America.”

Dominguez believes FIFA leadership can “in a great gesture” place the 2030 World Cup in its birthplace, above other interests.

The selection of the venue for the 2030 World Cup will be made at the 74th FIFA Congress in 2024, two years before the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The idea of a joint bid for the 2030 World Cup originally came from Uruguay and Argentina, who were finalists at the inaugural FIFA Cup in Montevideo in 1930.

In their bid to host the 2030 World Cup, the South American nation will have to compete with Spain and Portugal, which also recently expressed interest in adding Ukraine to their shortlist. There could be a third alternative between Greece, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, but this is still not officially confirmed.

During 2021, FIFA president Infantino once said: “It would be great to host the World Cup in South America.”
