Chelsea star Thiago Silva in talks over fresh new deal aged 38 as Brazilian legend says ‘they need me to rebuild’

SILVA SURFER THIAGO SILVA has confirmed he’s in talks with Chelsea over a new deal.

And the Brazilian is more than happy to stay, revealing: “They need me to rebuild.”

It now means Chelsea have a squad packed with top talented youngsters.

But with vice-captain Jorginho sold to Arsenal and skipper Cesar Azpilicueta likely to depart this summer, Chelsea run the risk of not having enough experienced heads in the side.

N’Golo Kante and Silva are both out of contract at the end of the season.

But Chelsea are now understood to be in talks over renewals for both men.

And Silva has gone one step further by confirming he is ready to commit his future to Stamford Bridge for at least one more year.

The legendary centre-back, 38, has been imperious in 105 games for Chelsea, including the 23 he’s played in this season.

And Blues fans will likely celebrate Silva’s renewal more than any of the mega-money transfers made in January.

Confirming negotiations with Graham Potter’s side, Silva said: “We are negotiating, it will probably happen in the next days.

“My plan is to continue at Chelsea and Chelsea want to continue with me.

“Chelsea need me with the rebuilding of the club, and I’m here.”

Silva has been a mainstay of the Chelsea XI his his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020.

The Brazil captain has played alongside a host of defensive partners including Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kalidou Koulibaly.

But Silva appears to have struck gold alongside new signing Benoit Badiashile, with the pair keeping consecutive clean sheets in their first two games together.

And they are likely to partner each other again when Chelsea look for revenge against Fulham at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
